What is Dance In Public Spaces (DIPS)? A site-specific class at a public art installation in the City of Austin. This class is for artists and arts administrators and in partnership with Body Shift. This class offers a variety of levels and modifications for the professional dancer, the visual artist, the musician and more. Learn about a field of art other than your own through networking that makes you move! Class is pay-what-you-can for dancers/movers. DIPS is NOT a performance. In September, our class will be at Belting It Out, an installation built for Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk.
About Belting It Out: An installation of 36 bronze sculptures cast from western-style belts, each one hand-tooled with fragments of song lyrics by well-known Texas songwriters or performers. The artist hopes that these fragments will become “ear worms”–catchy phrases stuck in our imagination–evoking stories and memories and reminding us of the Austin’s strong association with Texas music. The belts are attached to the railings of the Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk Trail. All lyrics used with permission. RSVP here.
