Contemporary Practice

Contemporary Practice is Dance Waterloo’s signature class for professional dancers. Occasionally indoors, mostly outdoors the class is taught on rotation by our company choreographers. Drop-ins welcome but RSVP is required. Pay-what-you-can.

Morgan Mackay Teel: The focus of my Contemporary Practice class is setting intention with qualitative movement, building stamina, and problem solving brain/body “tongue twisters” in improvisation and composition. Movers will investigate the creative capabilities of the body and mind and its relationship to environment. Through these environments, I aim to facilitate exercises of no judgement, encouraging movers to think and react quickly to deny the mind opportunity to adjudicate what is and is not innovative, thus surpassing habitual and conscious movement patterns.
